President Isaias underlined that as
Somalia's existence is rooted in the identity and blood of the
Somalis, the conspiracy of external forces to foment division
among the Somali people after failing to achieve this sinister
objective in battle is doomed to failure.
The President made the statement when he
received and held talks in Asmara today with the Chairman of the
Union of Islamic Courts (UIC), Sheik Sherif Sheik Ahmed.
Noting that the UIC is part and parcel of
the noble opposition of the Somali people against aggression,
President Isaias pointed out that the external invasion of
Somalia has on the contrary unified the ranks of the Somali
people behind the national cause besides ensuring the awareness
of the international community.
Further indicating that any misconstrued
intervention in the name of peacekeeping mission or otherwise,
the President underscored that even the UN Security Council
resolution calls for respect to Somalia's unity and territorial
integrity and not for invasion.
He went on to explain that the peace and
stability which prevailed in Somalia before the invasion when
viewed in comparison with the current carnage of war and turmoil
amply demonstrates the fallacy of the adventure. President
Isaias stressed that instead of rectifying one's errors and
committing more acts of adventurism is a typical behavior of
gamblers. Hence, he elaborated that the best option for those
parties who keep on making more grievous blunders is to correct
their mistakes.
Stating that the TPLF regime is but a mere
mercenary and that the current war in Somalia is mainly an
outcome of the wrong US strategy on the one hand and the Somali
people on the other, the President reiterated that the Eritrean
government's stance regarding the Somali people emanates from
moral, legal and historical relations, and as such it is
unalterable under any circumstance.
Sheik Sherif Sheik Ahmed on his part
commended the solidarity of the people and Government of Eritrea
with the Somali people. Taking note of the existence of
principled people and leadership like that of Eritrea who stand
behind the Somali people at the hour of need, the UIC Chairman
indicated that as always the Somali people would look beyond
existing problems.
Pointing out that the ranks of the Somali
people are united more than ever before and their nationalism
heightened, Sheik Sherif Sheik Ahmed stated that its abiding
choice is to build a sovereign and united Somalia. "We are not
all prepared to allow invaders to trample upon our sacred rights
and bring us under submission," he emphasized.
Sheik Sherif Sheik Ahmed indicated that
the biggest mistake committed by the US Administration lies in
mapping out of a national strategy on the basis of cheap
information provided to it by subordinate regimes like that of
the TPLF. Concrete evidences obtained following the invasion
vividly proves that the goal of the TPLF regime is to wipe out
Somalia from the world map, he elaborated.
