Shabelle Media Network reported the bomb exploded as authorities prepared for a new 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. curfew aimed at bringing calm to the volatile capital city and as Ethiopian troops gathered at Mogadishu's biggest market preparing to conduct house-to-house searches.
Five people, including one police officer were killed at the Bakara bazaar Thursday when gunmen opened fire and threw a grenade, Shabelle reported.
Mohammed Warsame Darwish, the leader of the Somali security committee, announced the Mogadishu curfew Thursday.
"Any one who trespasses the curfew will be regarded as a member of those responsible for the unremitting bombings and killings in the capital," he said.
