Questions Answered (Islam)
By Safi Abdi
This is a true narration from the life of the Messenger of Islam.

Enes Ibn Malik reports that a Bedouin came to the Messenger of Allah and greeted him in the mosque. The Messenger of Allah asked him where he came from. The Bedouin said: "I come from far seeking answers to some questions." Our master told him to ask his questions.

Q: "I wish to be an intelligent man, what should I do?"
A: "Fear Allah."

Q: "I wish to be a loyal servant to Allah and do what He wants     me to do."
A. "Read the Qur'an."

Q: "I wish to be enlightened and have peace of heart."
A. "Remember Death."

Q:"I wish to be protected against enemies."
A: "Trust in Allah."

Q: "I wish to follow the Straight Path."
A: "Do good to others for Allah’s sake."

Q:"What should I do so that Allah does not abase me?"
A: "Do not respond to the desires of your flesh."

Q: "I wish to have a long life."
A: "Praise and thank Allah."

Q: "I wish for prosperity."
A: "Be in a state of ablution at all times."

Q: "How can I save myself from the hellfire?"
A: "Protect your eyes and your tongue and your hands and what is below your waist line against evil."

Q: "How can I cleanse myself from my sins?"
A: "Shed tears for what you have done and repent by undoing what you have done wrong."

Q: "I wish to be a respectable person."
A: "Then, don’t ask for anything from anybody."

Q: "I wish to be honorable."
A: "Then don’t divulge the wrong doings of anybody."

Q: "What should I do to protect myself from the tortures of the grave?"
A: "Recite the Sûrah Mulk."

Q: "What should one do to be rich?"
A: "Read the Sûrah Muzammil."

Q: "How should I calm my fear of the day of last judgment?."
A: "Remember Allah before you eat anything and before you sleep."

Q: "What should I do to feel the presence of Allah when I make my prayers?"
A: "Give the utmost care in taking your ablutions and in being clean and pure."

Even at this age, these principles seem to be golden and if practised could prove successful for this life and hereafter.

Surah Muzammil is primary text from the Holy Quran (Kroan).

It is Chapter 73 (out of a total 114). To read it, go to http://www.al-islam.org/quran/ and select Chap 73 from the left middle. The translations (top left)are done by 4 men from the Arabic language to English. A. Yusuf Ali is a more accepted translater, or Marmaduke Pickthal (from England)> Pick!

Here's a link to it in audio narration: http://www.geocities.com/Athens/Academy/9263/acmk1.htm

Salaam All.

Its interesting how at the end of the day the message is all the same - whether Buddhist, Islam, Catholic, Hindu or whatever - love you neighbour, do not do onto others what you wouldn't like to be done to you and love and honour your God. Beautiful and enriching information!

God bless, Safi.

Sandie.

I think people fear what they do not know, and you are bringing enlightenment to so many by these postings, Safi. I think your Hadith is similar to our Catholic "My Key to Heaven". The more we learn of one another, the more the 'distance' is made so much shorter, and love, tolerance, understanding will surely prevail.

Thanks for this beautiful writing...

Patricia, What's written above is not from the Qur'an: This is taken from the Hadith: Hadith is a collection of the life transactions of the Prophet of Islam. Hadith (meaning sayings, actions, etc) is the second source of Islam. Qur'an is the first Source of Islam. Qur'an is the Word of Allah conveyed to Muhammad via the Angel Gabriel. Quran contains 114 Suras (Chapters). Surah Al Muzammil is Chapter 73 of the Quran.
For your info. Muhammad, peace be upon him, did not come with a new religion. The Qur'an confirms and is a culmination of all previous revelations to humanity. And Muhammad, peace be upon hin, was simply the last of a long line of prophets and messengers.
But while the Qur'an is in it's original untainted form, the earlier revelations are not. Hence the need for the Qur'an and the Last Messenger to guide humanity back to the correct path of Allah.

I like this site because it is comprehensive and has plenty of information for the non-Muslims as well.

Thank you for sharing this, Safi. The Quran (Koran)does sound a lot like our Bible. What is the Surah Muzammil and who wrote it? Is it true that the angel Gabriel dictated to Muhammad the Quran?
